Monitoring Report

The study „The Pre-Election Coverage by Kenyan Newspapers“ is the first monitoring report that the Media Council of Kenya publishes ahead of the General Election in (presumably) March 2013. The aim of this paper is to analyze the adherence of the print media to the “Guidelines of Election Coverage” that the Media Council of Kenya has developed in cooperation with many other media stakeholders. The guidelines are aimed at helping journalists to provide comprehensive, accurate, impartial, balanced and fair coverage of the elections. By sharing media monitoring results on a regular basis, such as this report, the Media Council wants to ensure that the media houses can rectify negative trends in order to contribute to a free, fair and democratic election process which enables citizens to make informed choices.
