Dialogue Workshop on Best Practices in Local Response Activities, 20-23 February in Hawassa, Ethiopia

Report on a Dialogue Workshop on best Practices in Local Response Strategies, held in February 2011 in Hawassa.

The workshop was conducted by the Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism (CEWARN) of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), in collaboration with GIZ and GIZ-CPS. All IGAD member states were represented by some 40 persons, including members of national conflict Early warning and response Units and civil society organizations, as well as traditional leaders. The aim of the workshop was to review and learn from case studies submitted by IGAD member states regarding best practices in local response on conflict prevention strategies.

The workshop was part of CEWARN’s capacity building initiative in Conflict Prevention, Management and Resolution (CPMR), aimed at strengthening the response aspect of its mandate. The workshop was specifically primed at building the CPMR capacity of CEWARN’s local and national level peace structures in the Dikhil, Karamoja and Somali Cluster, through peer-to-peer learning.
