Facts and figures
CPS is an initiative of German peace and development organisations. They established the Civil Peace Service Consortium, which also includes a number of governmental and non-governmental agencies. The organisations are responsible for the development and control of the programmes and projects, and also assist the peace workers in the field in their work. They recruit the experts and prepares them for their assignments. As a rule, all experts work closely together with local partner organisations.
CPS is a programme financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Since its foundation in 1999, more than 1500 experts were sent to 60 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and the Balkans.
At the moment, about 352 CPS experts are working in 42 countries.
