Civil Peace Service

Civil Peace Service - a new instrument for development co-operation

In the Civil Peace Service, government and non-governmental agencies are working together to help prevent hatred and violence and facilitate understanding. The aim of the CPS is to support measures by local partner organisations in crisis regions, which
  • seek to prevent violent conflicts from erupting (crisis prevention)
  • help strengthen peaceful conflict resolution (mitigating violence)
  • contribute - by developing structures to promote peace after conflicts - towards securing peace in the long term (peacebuilding)
The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a voluntary service, supported by women and men with professional and life experience, which is organised under the Entwicklungshelfergesetz (EhfG = Development Workers Act). CPS volunteers, acting in response to a request from local partners, help in overcoming enmity and developing peace-promoting structures through the intermediary and support services they provide. These services are available through the temporary placement of qualified experts in local partner organisations or through training that is provided for multipliers in the regions concerned.
